The platysma is the broad sheet of muscle across the front of the neck. As it tightens with age it pulls down on the jawline and creates visible vertical bands. Relaxing it releases that downward pull, allowing the jawline to sit better — an effect named after the profile on the bust of Nefertiti.
What it does and does not do
It softens the bands, releases the downward tension on the jaw and can improve definition along the jawline. It does not remove loose skin, and it does not do what a surgical neck lift does. If skin laxity is the main issue, this is not your treatment and I will tell you so.
Every treatment begins with a full-face assessment and an honest conversation. If I do not think a treatment is clinically indicated or right for you, I will say so and explain why — including when the answer is to do nothing.
