Polynucleotides are chains of purified nucleotides — the building blocks of DNA — used to support the skin's own repair processes. They are not a filler. Nothing is being added to change your shape; the treatment works at tissue level to improve how the skin behaves, which is why it suits thin, crepey or tired-looking skin better than a volumising product would.
What it does
Polynucleotides support fibroblast activity — the cells responsible for producing collagen and elastin. The effect is on skin quality: hydration, elasticity, firmness and overall texture. It is a gradual change rather than an immediate one, and it builds across a course.
Because the treatment improves the tissue rather than filling it, it is often the right first step for someone who has been told they need filler but whose real concern is skin thinning — particularly around the eyes, where volume is rarely the answer.
The under-eye area
The under-eye is where polynucleotides most often outperform the alternatives. Skin here is thin, mobile and unforgiving, and filler placed into a hollow that is really a texture problem tends to look worse over time, not better.
Assessment matters more than the product. Part of the consultation is working out whether what you are seeing is volume loss, skin quality, pigmentation, or the shadow cast by the orbital rim — because those four things have four different answers.
Course and results
A course is typically three sessions spaced two to four weeks apart, with results continuing to develop for some weeks after the final session. Maintenance is usually every six to twelve months depending on the area and how your skin responds.

Polynucleotides — what people ask
- Are polynucleotides the same as a filler?
- No. Dermal fillers add volume and structure. Polynucleotides do not add volume — they support the skin's own repair processes to improve quality, elasticity and hydration. They are often used together, but they do different jobs.
- How many sessions will I need?
- Usually three, spaced two to four weeks apart. Some areas and some skin types benefit from more. I will give you a realistic plan at consultation rather than committing you to a course before I have assessed you.
- Is there downtime?
- Small raised bumps at the injection points are normal and usually settle within a few hours to a day. Bruising is possible, particularly under the eyes. Most people return to normal activity the same day.
- When will I see a difference?
- Skin quality changes are gradual. Most people notice hydration and glow within a couple of weeks, with firmness and texture continuing to improve over the course and for several weeks after it finishes.
